Phillies' Madson has successful toe surgery

05/04/2010 - Philadelphia, PA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Ryan Madson underwent successful surgery to repair a broken right great toe on Tuesday.

Despite the result of the procedure, Phils trainer Scott Sheridan pronounced that Madson will be out a minimum of eight weeks while recovering. Madson is scheduled to see Dr. Steven Raikin -- who performed the surgery -- for an evaluation in two weeks.

Madson has been on the disabled list since April 29 after an incident following the team's game against the San Francisco Giants. During that contest, a 7-6 extra inning win, Madson squandered a chance to save the game in the 10th inning. He reportedly kicked a chair in the clubhouse, leading to the broken toe.

This season, Madson is 1-0 with a 7.00 earned run average in nine games. He has four saves in six opportunities.
