06/02/2010 - Seattle, WA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Ken Griffey Jr. has announced his retirement from baseball Wednesday just two months into his 22nd major league season.

Griffey informed the Mariners before Wednesday's game against Minnesota and retires as one of the most dynamic players to ever don a uniform.

The 40-year-old was hitting just .184 in 33 games this season for the Mariners after agreeing to a one-year deal in the offseason. Griffey's numbers have dropped off over the last few years. He hit .214 with 19 home runs and 57 RBI over 117 games in 2009 while serving primarily as the team's designated hitter.

One of the most prolific players in the 90s, Griffey ends his MLB tenure fifth on the all-time home run list with 630.
